Where in the world is my little brother?
Lockichokio (the far left corner)
Extreme Northern Kenya
The town is in the Turkana district, it is often called just Loki, the town lies on the A1 road and boasts an airport. It is about 30 miles from the Kenya-Sudanese border and tends to host NGO's. Around 49 NGO and UN offices (part of the Operation Sudan Program) plus a large hospital run by the ICRC. Local people are mainly nomads and derive a livelihood from taking care of local cattle. Around 90 km south of Loki is a town called Kakuma, one of the largest refugee camps in Kenya, peoples from Somalia, Ethiopia nad the Sudan.
Loki is the last Kenyan town before the border of Sudan. Although if anyone is to ask any Kenyan from the southern regions, they would say Lodwar which is about 200km south of the border is the last truly Kenyan town. Immediately after driving out of the last end of Loki and crossing a dry river bed the Kenyan military has set up a check point. This is truly the "border" between Kenya and Sudan. Beyond this there is only a road leading to Nadapal, the Sudanese checkpoint is 30km north, between the two is a no-man's land.
